Metallurgical laboratory manager

The position will manage day-to-day operations of Metallurgical lab including management of metallurgical testing, failure analysis, mechanical testing, guiding and motivating the team of 12 laboratory workers.Candidate should have experience in a similar role with at least 4 years of managerial experience. Plant Metallurgist

Exciting opportunity exist for a Plant Metallurgist to join an established company based in Shannon, Co. Clare.
Review new and revised customer specifications and advise the Sales and QA teams of any non-standard technical requirements when quoting new or existing customers. Resolve any arising technical issues with customers and appropriate QA and Production staff. Advise on the impact of specification changes on business.
Develop relationships with key customer technical personnel as appropriate.
Provide metallurgical support in the development of new accounts and new products.
Obtaining grants for product and process developments. Liaise with local and national institutions on metallurgical matters.
Initiating and assisting in research and development projects from conception to implementation.
Obtain customer approvals for new suppliers and products.
Develop, in conjunction with sub-contractors, production route for new products and to meet revised specification requirements
Investigation of customer complaints of a technical nature including the review of issues with customers
Liaise with and monitor raw material suppliers and sub-contractors on all matters of performance and seek process quality improvements.
Analyze complaints and internal non-conforming items arising from processing issues and to identify and implement improved operating procedures.
Review heat treatment procedures and advice on the best methods to ensure material properties are achieved on a consistent basis.
Advise production staff on the recovery/disposal of nonconforming material (test failures etc)
Any other duties deemed necessary on matters of Quality through discussion and mutual agreement.
Education & Qualification
Minimum of Degree in relevant engineering discipline material science.
Practical experience with material characterization techniques (Metallographic, failure analysis, etc)
Experience
2 - 5 years working in a machine orientated manufacturing environment. Ideally with Heat Treat experience.
Six Sigma / Lean expertise demonstrated in the manufacturing and design of new products is highly desired.

Based in the western suburbs of Brisbane, JKTech is the technology transfer vehicle for the Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI), a world renowned research and postgraduate teaching centre, within the University of Queensland.
We currently have several positions available for Laboratory Technicians. The Laboratory Technicians are responsible for conducting metallurgical and geometallurgical testing (eg comminution, leaching and flotation) for global mining clients using the latest cutting edge minerals industry characterization technology. The role is also responsible for ensuring that the data is reported in a high quality, professional and timely manner.
We are seeking candidates who possess experience in a similar role or have industry experience, possess knowledge of geology or mineral processing laboratory procedures and practices, have experience in appropriate handling and maintenance of laboratory equipment and have experience with data acquisition and analysis procedures. Additionally, the ideal candidate will need to demonstrate a strong capability in effectively using spreadsheets, word processing, databases and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). It is essential that candidates possess or have the ability to obtain a Fork Lift licence. Relevant industry qualifications and a driver’s licence will also be highly regarded.
It is essential that the ideal candidate can demonstrate the ability to follow safe work practices at all times, work collaboratively with others, meet deadlines, be familiar with working with laboratory equipment and possess strong organizational skills along with effective interpersonal and customer relations skills.

The Role
Provide technical support to ensure the achievement of plant performance targets to produce budgeted production output in a sustainable, cost effective manner. Senior Metallurgist

TCR Engineering Services is seeking to engage a high caliber Senior Metallurgist with expertise in physical and chemical testing, corrosion, failure analysis, materials selection, welding qualification and Metallography at our state-of-the-art Materials Testing Laboratory.The Senior Metallurgist will be "hands-on" in the laboratory performing testing and mentoring others to perform testing, analysis and results interpretation of numerous samples analyzed through the laboratory including mechanical, chemical, metallographic and corrosion. He/She will be expected to undertake failure and root cause analysis of failed components. Prior experience of materials specifications and test protocols will be required.The candidate will perform and assist in routine metallurgy, including micro preparation, etching, phase counting, grain size measurement, microstructural assessment etc. In addition, working within our mechanical test laboratory will be a requirement for conducting tests such as Tensile, Charpy Impact, HIC, SSCC and Microstructure Analysis.The Senior Metallurgist will interface with the machining department to ensure that samples are prepared as per the ASTM, NACE, BS, IS or client-specified standards.The applicant with a good broad-based technical understanding of the work carried out within the Laboratory sector is seen as highly advantageous for this position.
