Plant Metallurgist

Exciting opportunity exist for a Plant Metallurgist to join an established company based in Shannon, Co. Clare.
Review new and revised customer specifications and advise the Sales and QA teams of any non-standard technical requirements when quoting new or existing customers. Resolve any arising technical issues with customers and appropriate QA and Production staff. Advise on the impact of specification changes on business.
Develop relationships with key customer technical personnel as appropriate.
Provide metallurgical support in the development of new accounts and new products.
Obtaining grants for product and process developments. Liaise with local and national institutions on metallurgical matters.
Initiating and assisting in research and development projects from conception to implementation.
Obtain customer approvals for new suppliers and products.
Develop, in conjunction with sub-contractors, production route for new products and to meet revised specification requirements
Investigation of customer complaints of a technical nature including the review of issues with customers
Liaise with and monitor raw material suppliers and sub-contractors on all matters of performance and seek process quality improvements.
Analyze complaints and internal non-conforming items arising from processing issues and to identify and implement improved operating procedures.
Review heat treatment procedures and advice on the best methods to ensure material properties are achieved on a consistent basis.
Advise production staff on the recovery/disposal of nonconforming material (test failures etc)
Any other duties deemed necessary on matters of Quality through discussion and mutual agreement.
Education & Qualification
Minimum of Degree in relevant engineering discipline material science.
Practical experience with material characterization techniques (Metallographic, failure analysis, etc)
Experience
2 - 5 years working in a machine orientated manufacturing environment. Ideally with Heat Treat experience.
Six Sigma / Lean expertise demonstrated in the manufacturing and design of new products is highly desired.
