Description

The Foundry Engineer will be the primary technical lead for the foundry which produces Nickel-Aluminum-Bronze and Stainless Steel castings used in the maritime industry.
Main duties include:
  • Creation and validation of sand mold designs using Directional Solidification Modeling software, current best practices and previous manufacturing experience.
  • Determining and selecting process and manufacturing techniques, materials and equipment, to ensure high quality castings are efficiently produced.
  • Creation of process documentation identifying the quantities of metal to be charged and alloyed, while keeping to internal and external specifications for chemistry and mechanical properties.
  • Identification of casting related defects and their associated corrective actions.
  • Resolve technical problems.
  • Creation of process documentation as appropriate to support process implementation in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Assisting with metal inventory control to including annual physical count and reconciliation, charges, returns, recommend purchases and inventory levels.
  • Review, analyze, and calculate in-process manufacturing data as required.
  • Adhere to prescribed safety rules and regulations. Report to supervision any unsafe conditions that they may become aware of. Must wear or use all company required safety equipment.
  • Prepare specifications for capital projects and leading projects to introduce new equipment needed to improve efficiency and safety.
Secondary Job Functions:
  • Actively participates and contributes to improvement of Health, Safety and Environmental objectives / issues.
  • Interacts with production departments to develop and/or implement schedules, policies and company objectives.
  • Interfaces with Government and Classification Society (e.g. ABS) inspectors and technical personnel.
  • Identify and share best practices; capture and utilize lessons learned.
  • Participates in industry professional societies and activities (i.e. American Foundry Society, American Society for Testing and Materials, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, etc.).
  • Perform special project assignments and other related duties as assigned by the Site Manager.

Qualifications and experience

Basic:

  • Bachelors degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science or Engineering field with 5+ years experience in the manufacture of ferrous and/or non-ferrous castings
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance through the government industrial security program.
Preferred:
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
  • Computer proficiency using MS Office products and Directional Solidification Modeling software such as Magma.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written (training / presentations / report writing).
  • Ability to lead and direct teams and/or committees.
  • Ability to work at all levels within and organization and the ability to work within a diverse work group.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Exposure to ISO 9001 quality management systems
  • Six-Sigma green belt or black belt certified
