Sr. Manager - Material Science (CUMMINS)

  • BE/BS/ME/MS in Metallurgy, Materials Science or Materials Engineering
  • Six Sigma Green Belt – Training or Certification a plus
  • Must be proficient in MS Office and additional analytical software packages
  • Experience in the use and application of metallurgical & chemical lab equipment, including SEM, EDS, FTIR, XRD, NDI, metallography and mechanical property testing
  • Experience with heat treating, PVD coatings, grinding, machining, surface cleaning, raw material quality control, electro-chemical machining, laser machining, electrical discharge machining
  • Experience in metallurgical process 

    Strong metallography and mechanical property knowledge 

    Sliver alloy manufacture process experience is a plus
  • Failure analysis & corrective action development
  • Lead and Manage metallurgical failure analysis investigations
  • Perform and formally document component analyses for failure investigations, new product development, competitor parts analysis, etc…
  • Be the area expert on materials testing techniques and procedures
  • Provide metallurgical expertise to selected ESW tech leads and drive improvements in the materials of ESW documents.
  • Provide material and process recommendations and appropriate materials data to design and mechanical development engineers
  • Serve as technical resource for other engineers
  • Ensure all the parts in new product development and cost reduction comply with Cummins material spec.
  • Use and promote 6 sigma tools in the development process
  • Report on progress and issues
  • Assist in managing certification, safety and regulatory compliance issues
